It was a fun experience today getting to be at training camp as a member of the media. Being that close to the action was awesome, and having the opportunity to talk to some of the guys after practice in the locker room was a lot of fun. The highlight of the locker room experience was when Chris Johnson was talking to a huge group of the media, and Nate Washington hopped up and started yelling about a CD that had CJ on the cover.
The offense looked a little rusty today, but I guess that is to be expected on the first day of camp. Chris Johnson looks a little thicker than he did last year (in a good way) and it didn’t appear to affect his quickness. I was a little worried about what his conditioning level would be after not being here all offseason, but he looked ready to go.
Most of the stuff that they did today was pretty vanilla. CJ motioned out into a receiver spot a few times, but there was no option or anything fancy like that. The defense got the better of the offense for most of the day. Vince Young was off the mark a lot today, but again that is to be expected on the first day. Dominique Edison looked really good today. He caught everything that was thrown to him and had more catches than any other receiver. Kenny Britt also looked good but was out at the end of practice because of some cramping.
Ryan Mouton worked opposite of Cortland Finnegan for most of the day, but there were some times where Jason McCourty was out there.
A few observations after the jump.
Gramsey’s boy Alvin Pearman and Marc Mariani were the ones back catching punts during the special teams portion of practice. I would imagine Damian Williams will be in that mix, but he was placed on the PUP list because of the hamstring injury he suffered at the end of OTAs. He said after practice that he was close, but the team hadn’t given him a time frame for taking him off that list.
Derrick Morgan remains unsigned, but he is in Nashville and anxious to get in camp according to Williams who said that Morgan has been living in his house. D Will said Morgan was jealous when Williams left to sign his contract last night. Fisher said after practice that he believes the Titans and Morgan are close. Jim Washburn is easily the most vocal of all of the coaches. It is easy to see why he gets the best out of the guys that play for him and why they love playing for him so much. Tye Hill didn’t spend much time on the practice field today and was spotted on the sideline with ice on his leg. Fisher said after practice that it was precautionary, but who really knows.
Again, Edison was very impressive today. I had a notebook that I was writing names down in every time they did something impressive, and I have his name written down with 4 marks beside it.
Rusty Smith has what I would call a live arm. The battle between him and Chris Simms will be an interesting one to watch. Smith appeared to be one of those guys that "can make all the throws."
Britt did have a nice leaping catch on a ball from VY before he went down with the cramps. Jared Cook had one play where he made a false start and then got hit in the face by the ball. He also had a ball go off his hands that friend of the site Alterraun Verner then intercepted.
Stephen Tulloch made his first appearance at Baptist Sports Park since the end of last season. He was on the field as the middle linebacker in the base defense and stayed on the field with Will Witherspoon in the nickel packages.
Check back later because I will have some quotes from Fisher, VY, CJ2K, Tulloch and our friend Jacob Ford.

As previously reported, it seemed everything about Kenny Britt's off-season was underwhelming. His team mates were left confused because they expect Britt to continue to get better but he had taken a step backward when he chose to show up to practice out of shape and mentally unprepared. He was dropping passes left and right. That was the bad news. The good news is, it appears Kenny realizes his work-ethic needed some serious improvement. "I can't be dropping balls out there for no reason. I know I have to focus a lot better," Britt said. "So I am disappointed in myself, but I am not getting down, I am getting on myself to get better, and that is going to be on my mind the whole month of July. Even though everyone is going to be on vacation, this has to be my grinding time. I want to be the guy everyone can count on." Britt is consciously recognizing and admitting his struggles while putting it on himself to improve. To do this in front of his team and the fans is more than most of the WR divas of the NFL would be willing to do.
Fantasy Analysis:
Kenny Britt looked like a complete train wreck just days ago but the fact that he is a player that is honest with himself about his abilities and limitations improves both his fantasy and NFL future. Britt is now striving to improve. It is hard to get better if you refuse to accept the fact you need to develop specific skill sets or alter the way you currently do things. Britt is already half way there because he understands that he cannot just breeze through in today's NFL. You have to work. Constantly. Even with Britt's latest breakthrough, the Titan offense still looks extremely anemic. With a possible Vince Young suspension looming and a potential long-term Chris Johnson hold-out on the brink, Britt could be in one of the worst offenses in the entire NFL. He remains to be at most, a bye-week fill for the upcoming season.

Remember this Titan, Kenny Britt, wide receiver? Now that
the Tennessee Titans have had back-to-back victories, you may want to
pay close
attention to #18. Who is Kenny Britt, you may ask? Where to
begin...
Rutgers University, New Jersey. Although having numerous offers,
Britt
chose to stay in his home state, becoming a Scarlet Knight, starting as a
true freshman. The 2006 season saw 29 receptions; in 2007: 62; and in
2008: 87. He averaged 19.9 yards per catch, tied the Rutgers record
with 17 touchdowns, and was named Rutgers 2007 offensive MVP. He ranked
third in his schools career record list with 178 receptions, with a
season record of 87 catches, 4th in Big East history. In addition,
he helped win 27 games, including 3 bowl game victories. Other
accomplishments included numerous accolades, as well as Second Team
All-Big East (2007), First Team All-Big East (2008), AP Third Team
All-American (2008),
SI.com All-American Honorable Mention (2008), and Sporting News
All-American
Honorable Mention (2008).
After 3 memorable years at Rutgers and gaining national attention, Kenny
Britt entered the NFL Draft on January 3rd, 2009. Other Wide Receivers
in
the 2009 draft included Darrius Heyward-Bey (Oakland), Michael Crabtree
(San
Francisco), and Jeremy Maclin (Philadelphia). Britt was chosen 30th
overall by the Titans, though it had been speculated that the New York
Giants
were planning on choosing Britt, as they needed a replacement for
Plaxico
Burress. The Giants went with Hakeem Nicks, leaving Britt open for
Tennessee.
The Titans have had a difficult start to their season. However, the
past 2 weeks have seen the teams talent emerge under the leadership of
Heisman nominee Vince Young. The upcoming game on Sunday against the
Buffalo Bills, with infamous wide receiver Terrell Owens, has
the Titans hoping to continue their winning streak. This will
also be a big week for Kenny Britt, as Justin Gages back injury will
have Britt off the bench and ready to show his full potential. As
you watch 2-6 Tennessee take on 3-5 Buffalo, remember to keep an eye on
#18. Remember that Titan.
